Eustatie s-a născut în regiunea Budim din părinţi cu frică de Dumnezeu. De tînăr a fost tuns monah în Jicea; apoi a urcat pe culmile unor nevoinţe mai mari, la Mînăstirea Hilandar din Sfintul Munte Athos. După un timp, Eustatie a ajuns stareţul Hilandarului. Stareţ fiind, a fost apoi ales Episcop de Jicea iar după un timp Arhiepiscop al Sîrbilor. Eustatie a fost un om vestit prin milostenie, care şi-a păstorit turma cu dragoste şi cu zel. El a adormit cu pace la anul 1279 de la Hristos. La adînci bătrîneţi, pe patul morţii fiind, a strigat aşa înaintea ieşirii binecuvîntatului său suflet: „în mîinile Tale, Doamne, îmi dau sufletul meu." Sfintele sale moaşte sînt îngropate sub podeaua Bisericii Patriarhiei din Peci.
