El a fost dintr-o familie aristocrata, a detinut functie de înalt demnitar si a fost foarte bogat. Dar lepadînd toate, s-a stramutat la Constantinopol unde a primit hirotonia întru preot. Acolo el a întemeiat un asezamînt pentru saraci, în care îi adapostea pe cei cu boli contagioase, îngrijindu-i personal. El se afla în cercul de apropiati ai Sfîntului împarat Constantin cel Mare. Din cauza faptului ca Sfîntul Zotic primise de la Sfîntul împarat Constantin foarte mult aur, cu care Sfîntul Zotic a finanatat îngrijirea victimelor molimei, fiul împaratului, Constantius, 1-a legat pe Sfîntul Zotic de coada unui magar salbatic, pe care 1-au alergat pe strazile cetatii pîna cînd Sfîntul Zotic si-a dat sfîntul lui suflet din pricina ranilor. El a luat mucenicia în veacul al patrulea.
