El a fost pastor de oi, pascîndu-si turmele lui în cîmpia din apropiere de cetatea Mirelor, în Lichia. La vremea aceea prigonitorii crestinilor îl vînau pe Sfîntul Dioscorid, si 1-au aflat pe Temistocle pastorul cu oile la cîmp. Ei 1-au întrebat daca nu cumva 1-a vazut pe cel urmarit, si daca nu cumva cunoaste unde se ascunde. Dar Sfîntul Temistocle, desi stia, nu a voit sa spuna, ci mai degraba a strigat tare ca si el este crestin. El a fost torturat bestial si decapitat pentru credinta lui în Hristos în vremea lui Decius, la anul 251.
