El s-a nascut în provincia Volhynia si s-a îmbracat întru îngerescul chip de la vîrsta de doisprezece ani. El a fost un minunat nevoitor si un mare iconar. El a întemeiat o mînastire la rîul Rata, careia i-a fost egumen, în pofida vointei lui, el a fost înaltat Mitropolit al Kievului si sfintit la Constantinopol de catre Patriarhul Athanasie. Ca Mitorpolit, el a avut de îndurat multe ticalosii de la oamenii invidiosi si de la eretici. El a pastorit Biserica lui Hristos vreme de optsprezece ani, cu rîvna dumnezeiasca si cu jertfelnicie. în timpul vietii lui el si-a zidit sie-si o cripta în Biserica Adormirii, unde sfintele lui moaste de minuni facatoare odihnesc si în ziua de azi. El s-a savîrsit catre Domnul la anul 1326, stramutîndu-se la locasurile cele ceresti ale vesnicei slave.
