La început Sfîntul Grighentie a fost diacon al bisericii din Mediolan [Milano], si a avut multe vedenii. Prin purtarea de grija a lui Dumnezeu, el a fost dus la Alexandria. Acolo, în urma unei vedenii, Patriarhul Proterie 1-a sfintit episcop pentru tinutul Omirului din sudul Arabiei [„Arabia fericita"], pe care Sfîntul Elesbaan Regele (pomenit la 24 octombrie) tocmai îl eliberase de tirania lui Dunaan Evreul. Sfîntul Grighentie a fost pastorul cel bun al turmei sale si mare facator de minuni. El a organizat Biserica din Omir cu ajutorul iubitorului de Hristos Rege Avramie, a zidit multe locasuri sfinte, si a botezat multime mare de iudei. El a lucrat multime de minuni mari si înfricosate cu rugaciunea, pîna la a face sa Se descopere Domnul Hristos înaintea iudeilor necredinciosi, ceea ce i-a facut pe acestia sa alerge la primirea Sfîntului Botez. El a pastorit Biserica lui Dumnezeu de la Omir vreme de treizeci de ani, dupa care s-a savîrsit cu pace catre Domnul, la anul 552.
