Sfîntul Sofronie s-a nascut si a crescut în Insula Cipru. Din pricina ca era barbat foarte învatat si împodobit cu viata foarte sfînta, mai cu seama cu virtutea milostivirii, el a fost înaltat episcop în urma Sfîntului Damian. Pastorind cum se cuvine Biserica lui Dumnezeu si placîndu-I Lui întru toate, Sfîntul Sofronie s-a savîrsit cu pace în veacul al saselea.
