Sfantul Leon a trait in timpul imparatului Heraclie (641-668). A fost episcop in Catania, din insula Sicilia. El se ingrijea neincetat de saraci si bolnavi. La un moment dat si-a facut aparitia in Catania, vrajitorul Eliodor. Acest vrajitor insela poporul cu diferite inchipuiri. Va fi prezent si la o Liturghie, unde va face diverse vraji. In urma acestui fapt, Sfantul Leon il va lega cu unul din capetele omoforului si il va duce in piata orasului. Aici va porunci sa se faca un foc mare si va intra in el impreuna cu vrajitorul Eliodor. Sfantul Leon va iesi din foc nevatamat, in timp ce vrajitorul a fost ars cu desavarsire. A pastorit multi ani episcopia Cataniei, aducand la credinta multe persoane si ajutand pe multi, fara sa tina seama daca sunt crestini sau nu. Dupa trecerea sa la cele vesnice, moastele sale au fost asezate in Biserica "Sfanta Lucia“.
