Sfintul Ghenadie a fost monah la Mînăstirea Vatopedi din Sfintul Munte Athos, unde a avut ascultarea de econom, în vremea cînd Sfintul Ghenadie a fost economul mînăstirii un butoi gol s-a umplut prin minune cu untdelemn. Această minune, spun Părinţii, s-a făcut de către Preasfânta Născătoare de Dumnezeu, căreia îi este închinată mînăstirea, şi mai ales de către puterea sfintei ei icoane care se afla acolo.
