El a fost fiul Tarului Dusan, si a domnit în cumplitele vremuri de prabusire a regatului sîrb. Blînd, evlavios si smerit, el nu a voit sa îi aduca cu forta pe nobilii lui la supunere fata de rege si fata de interesele regatului sîrb. Printre acesti nobili s-a aflat si violentul Vukasin, care în cele din urma 1-a si asasinat pe rege. Bunul Uros a luat moartea muceniceasca în a doua zi a lunii decembrie din anul 1367, pe cînd era în vîrsta de treizeci si unu de ani. Asasinat de muritori, el a fost preaslavit vesnic de Dumnezeu. Sfintele lui moaste facatoare de minuni au odihnit la Mînastirea lazak din Fruska Gora, de unde au fost aduse la Belgrad în timpul celui de al Doilea Razboi Mondial. Ele au fost asezate în Biserica Catedrala alaturi de cele ale Kneazului Lazar si ale Despotului Stefan Stiliianovici. în timpul domniei acestui rege sfînt s-a rididcat Mînastirea Sfîntului Nahum de lînga Lacul Ohrida, de catre unul dintre nobilii regelui, Grgur.
