Ea a locuit la Alexandria şi a dus o viaţă singuratică de rugăciune, trăind din lucrul mîinilor ei. Dar un tînăr aprins de pofta cea trupească pentru ea era mereu pe urmele ei. Nevoind să păcătuiască înaintea lui Dumnezeu, şi împrejurările nepermiţîndui să se pună la adăpost de prezenţa lui, Sfînta Mastridia 1-a întrebat odată, ce îl atrage aşa de mult la ea? Acela a răspuns: "Ochii tăi." Sfînta Mastridia şi-a scos atunci ochii cu acul. Astfel ea şi-a păstrat şi întreaga feciorie, şi 1-a păzit şi pe acela de păcat de moarte. Tînărul s-a pocăit cu amar, iar dintru aceasta s-a făcut monah.
