Acesta a fost de neam bulgar, împreună cu alţi camarazi ai lui el a luptat în armata grecească, împotriva agarenilor şi a etiopienilor, dînd dovadă în timpul luptelor de o vitejie fără egal. El a omorît un şarpe uriaş, salvînd astfel viaţa unei fecioare. Curînd după aceasta, acest bărbat drept a trecut la viaţa cea neîmbătrînitoare. El a trăit şi s-a săvîrşit în veacul al nouălea. El mai întîi a fost îngropat undeva în Tracia, dar împăratul Kalo-Ioan i-a mutat sfintele moaşte la Trnovo, la anul 1206.
