Aceasta s-a născut în Insula Lesbos şi s-a tuns în monahism la vîrsta de şaptesprezece ani. Dar sălbaticii saracini au atacat insula şi au luat în robie pe toţi cei pe care i-au putut captura, inclusiv pe Teoctista şi pe sora ei de sînge. Ducînd saracini i pe aceşti oameni robiţi la piaţa de sclavi din Insula Păros, Teoctista a reuşit să scape din mulţime şi să se ascundă într-o biserică părăsită din mijlocul insulei. Ea s-a nevoit acolo întru cele mai aspre nevoinţe călugăreşti timp de treizeci şi cinci de ani. Ea s-a săvîrşit către Domnul la anul 881.
