Беше големец на дворецот на персискиот цар Издегерд. Бидејќи не сакаше да се одрече од Христа, царот го расчини, му го зеде имотот и го прати да чува стока. Се надеваше царот дека Гормиздас набрзо ќе зажали за чинот и за имотот и дека ќе им се поклони на идолите. Но се излажа. Гормиздас спокојно ја чуваше стоката и ја држеше верата. За ова царот го подложи на лути маки, со кои успеа само да му го истошти телото на Христовиот маченик, но не и да го измени неговиот дух. Најпосле Свети Гормиздас го убија во 418 година, веднаш после страдањето на Светиот епископ Авда (31 март). Пострадаа на земјата, а се прославија на небото.
