Селанец, родум од Волос во Тесалија. Кога некој нечовечен ага собираше од народот царски даноци и многу го угнетуваше народот, Стамат појде со неколкумина другари во Цариград за таму да се жалаат кај везирот. Но заради острите обвиненија кон агата Стамат се замери со големците на султанот и тие го уапсија. Најнапред сакаа да го потурчат со ласкање и ветувајќи му богатства, слава и чест. На тоа маченикот возвикна: „Моето богатство, слава и чест е мојот Христос!“ Тогаш Турците го мачеа и најпосле пред Света Софија го заклаа, во 1680 година. Така овој Христов војник стекна венец маченички.
