Роден е на Кипар, од богати и угледни родители. Имаше високо образование, стапи во брак и имаше деца. Кога умре жена му, се повлече во монашки живот, заради што ги остави децата на Промислата. Се прочу заради милосрдноста, кротоста и духовната ученост, и заради ова апамејците го избраа за свој епископ. Како епископ ревносно се трудеше во обраќањето на незнабожците во христијанската вера.
