На овој ден се празнува преносот на моштите на Св. Георгиј од Никомидија во градот Лида Палестинска, каде што пострада во времето на царот Диоклецијан. Страдањето на овој прекрасен светител е опишано под 23 април. Пред смртта Св. Георгиј го замоли својот слуга да го земе неговото мртво тело и да го пренесе во Палестина, од каде што беше родум и мајка му и каде што имаше голем имот, кој им го раздаде на сиромасите. Слугата така и направи. Во времето на царот Константин во Лида побожните христијани му изградија на Св. Георгиј прекрасен храм и при осветувањето на храмот во него ги пренесоа моштите на светителот и таму го закопаа. Од чудотворните мошти на Св. великомаченик Георгиј се случија големи чуда.
