Родум од Трново, но српски воспитаник на Атон. Се бавеше особено со преведување и препишување книги. Покровител му беше Филотеј, Патријархот Цариградски, кој кога го запозна на Света Гора, го зеде кај себе и потоа го испрати за митрополит во Киев. Како митрополит претрпе големи неволји, но сите ги поднесе благодушно и со својата плодотворна работа многу ѝ користеше на Руската Црква. Во митрополитскиот чин помина речиси триесет и шест години. Пред смртта напиша едно проштално слово, кое го прочитаа на неговиот гроб. Се упокои на 16 септември 1406 година. Неговите чудотворни мошти почиваат во Успенската црква во Москва.
