Беше најпрво свештеник, а потоа, од 1162 година, епископ во Новгород. За време на својот живот изгради седум цркви. Имаше видение на Пресвета Богородица и необична сила над демоните, коишто дури ги принудуваше и да му служат. Чудесно го сочува Новгород од нападот на седумдесет и двајца кнезови. Страдаше од искушенијата ѓаволски, но со силата на крстот и молитвата сите ги совлада. На старост се повлече во манастир, прими схима и мирно се упокои во Господ на 7 септември, 1185 година.
