Свети Поликарп го испрати од Мала Азија во Галија на проповед. Стана прв епископ Лионски и многумина ги преведе од незнабоштво во христијанство. Во времето на гонењето на христијаните во 177 година на суд беше изведен и Потин: го донесоа на раце, бидејќи беше стар деведесет години. Проконсулот го праша: „Кој е христијанскиот Бог?“ Старецот Потин пак одговори: „Ќе дознаеш ако се удостоиш со тоа.“ Незнабожците навалија на него со стапови и со камења и безмилосно го тепаа. Го фрлија во затвор, каде што од ударите за два дена се упокои и се пресели во Небесното Царство.
