Во својата дваесетта година се замонаши и како монах помина триесет и шест години. Тогаш, во времето на царувањето на Михаил и Теодора, беше избран за епископ Едески. Се упокои во 848 година. Со него се спомнуваат и неговиот учител Свети Теодосиј Столпник Сирски, неговиот брат Св. Јован и Св. Адер, благородник и богаташ, којшто побегна од жена си и се замонаши.
