Астион, единец на неговите родители, кон верата Христова го приклони свештеникот Епиктет и го замонаши. Потоа се отселија некаде во источните краеви во скитски предели и се населија во скитскиот град Алмирид (денешен Рамзин), кај утоката на Дунав во Црното Море. Мачени и убиени со меч заради верата Христова околу 290 година. Обајцата по смртта во голема светлина им се јавија на Астионовите родители, Александар и Маркелина, кои поверуваа во Христа и се крстија од епископот Евангел, којшто и самиот потоа беше убиен за Христа. „Евангел, сличен на ангел“, како што е воспеан.
