Во младоста се одрече од светот и се оддалечи на монашки подвиг. Блескајќи со добродетелта како сонце, беше забележан од црковните старешини и воздигнат на архиерејскиот престол во Халкидон. Како архиереј беше особено милостив кон бедните и многу се грижеше за сираците, вдовиците и ништите. Кога злочестивиот Лав Ерменин стана против иконите, стана и овој Свети Никита во одбрана на иконите, разобличувајќи го царот и објаснувајќи му го значењето на иконите. За ова претрпе многу понижувања, озлобувања и затварања. Најпосле беше протеран во прогонство заради исповедањето на вистинската вера и сред трудови и страдања се престави кај Господ за да прими венец на слава во Царството Божјо.
