Во време на луто иконоборство во 8 век, главата на Свети Јован Крстител беше пренесена во местото Комане, место на прогонството на Свети Јован Златоуст. А кога престана иконоборството, во времето на царот Михаил и патријархот Игнатиј, во 850 година, чесната глава на Свети Јован беше пренесена во Цариград и положена во придворната царска црква.
