Се подвизуваше во Хилендар, каде што стана и игумен. Кога на некои Турци им го побара манастирскиот долг, овие наговорија една жена муслиманка и таа влезе во куќата кај што живееше Дамаскин. Тогаш Турците влегоа и ја најдоа жената, па го одвлечкаа Дамаскин кај кадијата. Таму му беше предложено или да биде обесен или да се потурчи, на што тој одлучно рече: „Би била лудост кога со привремениот живот би си купувал вечна погибел“. Го обесија во 1777 година во Свиштово. Го жртвуваше телото за да си ја спаси душата. Неговите убијци веднаш ги постигна Божја казна. Седнаа на чун да се превезат преку Дунав, но ненадејна бура им го преврте чунот и се удавија.
