Овој светител се роди во Галата во Цариград. По занимање беше ѕидар („калфа“ значи „ѕидар“). Заради усрдното исповедање на христијанската вера се замери со Турците и тие почнаа да го присилуваат да се потурчи. „Не сакам да се одречам од мојот сладок Исус Христос“, им одговараше. „Во Него верувам, Нему Му служам, Него Го исповедам“. После тешки мачења Турците го заклаа на 26 февруари 1575 година во Цариград. Чесно пострада за љубениот Господ и се пресели во Неговите небесни дворци.
