Во 14 век се подвизуваше како монах на Света Гора на особен начин. Имено, се правеше по малку јуродив и постојано го менуваше престојувалиштето. А престојувалиште му беше колиба од гранки. Една по друга колиба тој ги подигаше и ги палеше, заради што и е наречен Капсокаливит, што значи Паликолиба. Го сметаа за луд сѐ додека на Света Гора не дојде Св. Григориј Синајски, којшто во Максим откри единствен подвижник, чудотворен молитвеник и „ангел во тело“. Се престави кај Господ во 1320 година.
