Свештеник смирненски. Пострада во Смирна во времето на Декиевото гонење. Го осудија на распнување, заради што беше многу радосен. И штом војниците го склопија крстот и го положија на земјата, Пиониј самиот легна на крстот, ги испружи рацете и им заповеда на војниците да му ги приковаат рацете со клинци. Крстот го всадија во земјата наопаку, а под главата на маченикот наложија оган. Наоколу имаше многу народ. Светиот Пиониј си ги затвори очите и радосно возвикна: „Боже, прими го мојот дух!“ и издивна. Овој светител го напиша житието на Св. Поликарп Смирненски. Пострада и се прослави во 250 година.
