Роден е во Москва во 1635 година. Кон Црквата го привлекоа црковното пеење и богослужбите. Му стана духовник на царот Петар Велики, но заради некоја клевета се оддалечи во Соловецкиот манастир, каде што тврдо се подвизуваше. Се упокои во Господ во 1720 година во својата осумдесет и петта година. Пред смртта возвикна: „Благословен е Бог на нашите Отци! А кога е така не се плашам и со радост заминувам од овој свет.“
