Праведниот Јосиф Евангелието го нарекува м а ж п р а в е д е н (Матеј 1, 19). Затоа и му ја даде Бог Пресветата Дева на заштита, со што му се додели голема чест во домостројот на спасението на човечкиот род. Иако Јосиф беше од царскиот род Давидов, сепак самиот беше скромен дрводелец во Назарет. Во својата осумдесетта година Ја зеде Пресветата Дева од ерусалимскиот храм во својот дом, а во сто и десеттата година од животот се упокои.
