Роден е во Волинската област и монашки чин прими во дванаесеттата година од животот. Беше прекрасен подвижник и иконописец. Основа манастир на реката Рата, таму беше игумен. Наспроти неговата волја го поставија за митрополит Киевски. За митрополит беше посветен во Цариград од патријархот Атанасиј. Претрпе неволји од завидливците и од еретиците. Со Црквата управуваше осумнаесет години. Се памети како добар и ревносен пастир. Додека беше жив си направи гробница во Успенскиот храм, каде што до денес почиваат неговите Свети и чудотворни мошти. Се упокои во 1326 година.
