Ο Άγιος Ουρσίκιος έζησε στα χρόνια του βασιλιά Μαξιμιανού (286 - 305 μ.Χ.) και καταγόταν από την πόλη Σιβεντού της Άνω Ιλλυρίας. Ήταν στρατιωτικός και είχε φτάσει μέχρι και το βαθμό του τριβούνου. Καταγγέλθηκε στον Μαξιμιανό από κάποιον Ουάλεντα ότι είναι χριστιανός και παραπέμφθηκε στον έπαρχο Αριστείδη για ανάκριση. Αλλά ο Ουρσίκιος ομολόγησε με θάρρος την χριστιανική του πίστη και βασανίστηκε σκληρά και ποικιλοτρόπως. Επειδή όμως επέμενε να ομολογεί τον Χριστό, αποκεφαλίστηκε και έτσι έλαβε ένδοξα το στεφάνι του μαρτυρίου.
