Ο Σ. Ευστρατιάδης αναφέρει για τον όσιο αυτό τα έξης: « Ἄγνωστος καθ' ὁλοκληρίαν εἰς τοὺς ἐντύπους Συναξαριστᾶς. Ἡ μνήμη τούτου μετὰ τῆς αὐτοῦ Ἀκολουθίας, ποίημα Θεοφάνους τοῦ Γραπτοῦ, ἀπαντᾷ ἐν τῷ Παρισινῷ Κώδικι 1619 φ. 62. Ἐκ τοῦ περιεχομένου τῆς Ἀκολουθίας φαίνεται, ὅτι ἣν πρότερον μοναχὸς ἐν ἐρήμῳ φυγαδεύων καὶ εἴτα διὰ τὴν ἁγιωσύνην καὶ ἀρετὴν αὐτοῦ προήχθη εἰς τὴν μητρόπολιν Ἐφέσου, ἣν θεαρέστως διεκυβέρνησεν "ἐλέγχων διὰ τῶν διδαχῶν αὐτοῦ τοὺς φρενοβλαβῶς τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἀτιμάζοντας" ἐξ οὐ δῆλον ὅτι ἐπὶ τῶν εἰκονομάχων ἤκμασεν ἴσως δὲ ἣν καὶ σύγχρονος Θεοφάνους τοῦ ποιητοῦ καὶ Γραπτοῦ, ὅστις καὶ τὴν τούτου Ἀκολουθίαν συνέθετο.
