Η Αγία Αναστασία έζησε στα χρόνια των βασιλέων Δεκίου και Βαλεριανού (250 μ.Χ.). Καταγόταν από τη Ρώμη και μόναζε σ' ένα Μοναστήρι μαζί με άλλες παρθένες. Αυτή λοιπόν καταγγέλθηκε ότι είναι χριστιανή και οδηγήθηκε μπροστά στον ηγεμόνα με σιδερένια αλυσίδα και χτυπήθηκε άγρια στο πρόσωπο. Κατόπιν, αφού τη γύμνωσαν, με μαρτυρικό τρόπο την έκαιγαν, ενώ στη φωτιά έχυναν πίσσα, λάδι και θείο. Έπειτα την κρέμασαν σ' ένα ξύλο και έκοψαν τους μαστούς της. Στη συνέχεια έβγαλαν από τη ρίζα τα νύχια της, έκαψαν τα χέρια και τα πόδια της, ξερίζωσαν τα δόντια της και στο τέλος την αποκεφάλισαν, παίρνοντας έτσι το αμάραντο στεφάνι του Μαρτυρίου.
