Η Αγία Γουδελία (ή Γοβδελία) ήταν Περσίδα χριστιανή απόστολος, που κατάφερε να φέρει πολλούς απίστους στο δρόμο της δια Χριστού σωτηρίας. Έζησε τον τέταρτο μετά Χριστόν αιώνα, όταν βασιλιάς της Περσίας ήταν ο Σαπώρ (περί το 340 μ.Χ.). Επειδή δυναμικά εκτελούσε το Ιεραποστολικό της έργο, τη συνέλαβαν και την έκλεισαν για πολλά χρόνια στη φυλακή. Οι εκεί κακοπάθειές της υπήρξαν φοβερές. Μόνο η θεία χάρη την ενίσχυσε, ώστε να κατανικήσει την υγρασία, το σκοτάδι και τις συχνές στερήσεις και αυτού του νερού. Αλλά όλα αυτά τα μακροχρόνια βάσανα, δεν ελάττωσαν καθόλου τη φωτιά της πίστης και τη φλόγα της γενναιότητάς της. Κατόπιν της έγδαραν το κεφάλι, χωρίς να υποκύψει η καρτερία της. Τελικά πέθανε με σταυρικό θάνατο.
