Ο Άγιος Μαλαχίας ήταν γιος Ιερέα από τη Ρόδο. Κάποτε πήγε στα Ιεροσόλυμα και συκοφαντήθηκε από τους Τούρκους, ότι έβρισε τον Μωάμεθ. Αμέσως συλλήφθηκε και οδηγήθηκε στις αρχές, που τον εκβίαζαν να εξωμόσει. Ο Μαλαχίας έδειξε μεγάλο θάρρος, με το όποιο εξήγειρε την οργή των Τούρκων, οι όποιοι αφού τον μαστίγωσαν, τρύπησαν τους αστραγάλους του και τον έδεσαν πίσω από ένα άγριο άλογο. Μετά από μία σειρά φρικτών βασανιστηρίων, οδηγήθηκε ο μάρτυρας έξω από την πόλη, όπου σουβλίστηκε και κάηκε πάνω σε αναμμένη φωτιά. Έτσι παρέδωσε την Αγία του ψυχή στις 29 Σεπτεμβρίου 1500 μ.Χ.
