Ο Άγιος Ακάκιος, καταγόταν από την Απολλωνία και μαρτύρησε στα χρόνια του βασιλιά Λικίνιου. Ήταν ένθερμος υποστηρικτής του Ευαγγελίου και δεινός κήρυκάς του. Λόγω του έργου του καταγγέλθηκε και βασανίστηκε. όμως με τη θεία επέμβαση, βγήκε αλάβωτος από τα βασανιστήρια. Έτσι δεν έπαθε τίποτα όταν τον έριξαν μέσα σε καζάνι με βραστό νερό και διασώθηκε από την αγριότητα πεινασμένου λιονταριού. Βλέποντας αυτά τα θαύματα ο έπαρχος Τερέντιος, τον άφησε ελεύθερο.
