Ὁ Ἅγιος Βάδιμος ἔζησε κατὰ τοὺς χρόνους τοῦ βασιλέως τῆς Περσίας Σαβωρίου Β’ (325 – 379 μ.Χ.). Ἦταν Πέρσης καὶ καταγόταν ἀπὸ εὐγενὴ καὶ πλούσια οἰκογένεια τῆς πόλεως Βηθλαπάτης. Ἀφοῦ καταφρόνησε τὴ δόξα τοῦ κόσμου καὶ τὰ πλούτη, ἔγινε μοναχὸς καὶ ἔπειτα ἀρχιμανδρίτης καὶ εἶχε κοντά του ἑπτὰ μαθητές. Ἐπειδὴ ὅμως κήρυσσαν τὸν Χριστό, καταγγέλθηκαν ὅτι ἀποσποῦν τοὺς Πέρσες ἀπὸ τὴν θρησκεία τῶν εἰδώλων καὶ συνελήφθησαν. Παρὰ τὶς πιέσεις καὶ τὰ βασανιστήρια ὁ Ἅγιος Βάδιμος καὶ οἱ μαθητές του ὁμολογοῦσαν συνέχεια μὲ παρρησία καὶ ἀνδρεία τὸ Ὄνομα τοῦ Ἁγίου Θεοῦ. Τότε παρεδόθησαν στὸν δήμιο Νηρσᾶ, ὁ ὁποῖος μὲ τὸ σπαθί του θανάτωσε τὸν Ἅγιο καὶ ἀποκεφάλισε τοὺς μαθητές του.
