Ο Άγιος Πάπας δόξασε τη χώρα της Λυκαονίας. Ήταν θερμός κήρυκας του Χριστού στον κόσμο της ειδωλολατρίας και καταδικάστηκε σε θάνατο. Στην αρχή τον χτύπησαν με λεπτές ευλύγιστες βέργες. Κατόπιν έσχισαν τα πλευρά του με σιδερένια νύχια. Στην κατάσταση που ήταν του φόρεσαν σιδερένια παπούτσια και τον βίαζαν να βαδίζει. Τέλος, μισοπεθαμένο τον κρέμασαν σ' ένα δένδρο, όπου παρέδωσε την τελευταία του πνοή ψιθυρίζοντας μέχρι τέλους: «Χριστιανὸς εἰμί».
