Ἡ στρατιὰ αὐτὴ τῶν χιλίων τριῶν Ἁγίων Μαρτύρων ἔλαβε τοὺς στεφάνους τῆς δόξας τοῦ Θεοῦ κατὰ τοὺς χρόνους τοῦ αὐτοκράτορα Διοκλητιανοῦ (284 – 305 μ.Χ.). Ἤσαν οἰκογένειες, ἄνδρες, γυναῖκες καὶ παιδιά, ποὺ θυσίασαν τὴ ζωὴ τους ὑπὲρ τοῦ Εὐαγγελίου. Οἱ Ἅγιοι αὐτοὶ Μάρτυρες ἀνῆκαν στὴν ὑπηρεσία τῶν τεσσάρων ἐκείνων προτικτόρων καὶ Ρωμαίων ἀξιωματούχων, οἱ ὁποῖοι, ὕστερα ἀπὸ ἐντολὴ τοῦ αὐτοκράτορα, συνέλαβαν τὸν Ἅγιο Ἱερομάρτυρα Πέτρο, Ἀρχιεπίσκοπο Ἀλεξανδρείας καὶ ἀπέκοψαν τὴν τίμια κεφαλὴ αὐτοῦ († 24 Νοεμβρίου).
