Синови великога кнеза Владимира, покрститеља руског народа. До свога крштења Владимир имаше много жена, и од њих децу. Борис и Гљеб беху браћа од једне мајке. Пред смрт Владимир раздели државу на све своје синове. Но Свјатополк, најстарији му син, кнез кијевски, пожели да узме и делове намењене Борису и Гљебу. Зато посла људе те на једном месту уби Бориса, а на другом Гљеба. Беху ова два брата необично побожна и у свему богоугодна, и сретоше смрт са молитвом и уздизањем свога срца ка Богу. Њихова тела остану нетљена и благоухана, и буду сахрањена у граду Вишгороду где до дана данашњега исходи из њих благодатна сила, која исцељује људе од разних болести и мука.
