Ὁ Ἅγιος Σάββας, ὁ Ὁμολογητής, κατὰ κόσμον Συμεών, ἔζησε τὸν 17ο αἰώνα μ.Χ. στὴν Τρανσυλβανία. Ἀφοῦ πέρασε κάποιο διάστημα στὴ μονὴ Κομάνα, ὅπου διδάχθηκε τὰ ἱερὰ γράμματα, διορίσθηκε ὡς ἱερέας στὴν περιοχὴ Ἀράντ. Τὸ ἔτος 1656 ἐξελέγη Μητροπολίτης Τρανσυλβανίας καὶ ποίμανε τὸ ποίμνιό του μὲ ἱερὸ ζῆλο καὶ ἀγάπη. Γιὰ τὸν λόγο αὐτό, τὸ ἔτος 1680, ἐκθρονίσθηκε καὶ φυλακίσθηκε. Ἐπὶ τρία ὁλόκληρα χρόνια ὑπέφερε στὴ φυλακή, γιὰ τὴν ἀγάπη τοῦ Χριστοῦ, πάνδεινα βασανιστήρια. Ἀποφυλακίσθηκε τὸ ἔτος 1683 καὶ μετὰ ἀπὸ λίγο καιρό, λόγω τῶν κακουχιῶν καὶ τῶν βασάνων, παρέδωσε τὴν ἁγία του ψυχὴ στὸν Θεό.
