Ο Όσιος Γεώργιος έζησε κατά τους χρόνους της εικονομαχίας και εξελέγη Επίσκοπος Πισιδίας. Προσκληθείς μαζί με άλλους Επισκόπους στην Κωνσταντινούπολη, όπου επρόκειτο να επιβληθεί η κατάργηση των ιερών εικόνων, στην Σύνοδο του 754 μ.Χ., αντιστάθηκε σθεναρά στα εντάλματα των κρατούντων εικονομάχων και στην ασέβειά τους. Για τον λόγο αυτό εξορίσθηκε από τον αυτοκράτορα Κωνσταντίνο Ε' τον Κοπρώνυμο (741-775 μ.Χ.) και ευρισκόμενος στην εξορία κοιμήθηκε. Για τους αγώνες του υπέρ της ορθοδόξου πίστεως ονομάσθηκε Ομολογητής.
