Ο Άγιος Γεννάδιος ήταν μοναχός στην Ιερά Μονή Διονυσίου του Αγίου Όρους. Με προτροπή λοιπόν του ηγουμένου της Μονής, πήγε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη σαν συνοδός των Βονιφατίου και Ευδόκιμου, που βάδιζαν προς το μαρτύριο. Αυτοί όμως, δείλιασαν μπροστά στα βασανιστήρια, απαρνήθηκαν τον Χριστό και κατάγγειλαν σαν αίτιο της πορείας τους προς το μαρτύριο τον Γεννάδιο. Τότε οι Τούρκοι συνέλαβαν το Γεννάδιο, τον φυλάκισαν και ποικιλότροπος τον βασάνισαν. Αυτός όμως έμεινε σταθερός στην πίστη του και αποκεφαλίστηκε στίς 6 Απριλίου 1818 μ.Χ.
