Ο Άγιος Ευλόγιος έζησε στα μέρη της Θηβαΐδας της Αιγύπτου. Το επάγγελμα του ήταν λατόμος (πετροκόπος) και ονομάστηκε Ξενοδόχος, διότι σ' όλη του τη ζωή κύρια μέριμνα και απόλαυση είχε το να φιλοξενεί στο σπίτι του και να παρέχει κάθε βοήθεια στους πτωχούς και οδοιπόρους. Παρά τη βαριά και κοπιαστική εργασία του, το βράδυ, μόλις σχολούσε από τη δουλειά του, έτρεχε στην αγορά, κρατώντας φαναράκι το χειμώνα και αναζητούσε ξένους, για να τους δώσει στέγη και κάθε άλλη φιλοξενία. Αυτός μάλιστα κάποτε φιλοξένησε και τον Αββά Δανιήλ με τον υποτακτικό του, όταν αυτοί κατέβηκαν στην πόλη και έμειναν χωρίς ψωμί και στέγη. Ο Ευλόγιος έζησε πάνω από εκατό χρόνια, ευεργετώντας τους συνανθρώπους του και απεβίωσε ειρηνικά.
