Ο Άγιος Δούκας καταγόταν από τη Μυτιλήνη και εργαζόταν ως ράπτης σε κάποιο ραφείο της Κωνσταντινουπόλεως. Όταν κάποτε πήγε να προσφέρει τις υπηρεσίες του στο σπίτι κάποιου Τούρκου μεγιστάνα, που έλειπε στον στρατό, δέχθηκε άμεση επίθεση από την ακόλαστη γυναίκα του, αλλά ως άλλος σώφρων Ιωσήφ απομακρύνθηκε από το σπίτι της. Τότε εκείνη για να αποσείσει την ντροπή από πάνω της πήγε και συκοφάντησε τον Δούκα στο Βεζίρη ότι ο μάρτυρας προσπάθησε να τη βιάσει στο σπίτι της.
