Ο Όσιος Ευθύμιος έζησε μεταξύ του 15ου και 16ου αιώνα μ.Χ. στη Ρωσία. Γεννήθηκε στην πόλη Μπολογκντά και από νεαρή ηλικία αγάπησε τον μοναχικό βίο. Σύντομα έγινε μοναχός στο μοναστήρι Σπασο-Καμένσκιυ κοντά στην λίμνη Κουμπενσόε. Λίγο αργότερα όμως έφυγε από το μοναστήρι, για να ζήσει ως ερημίτης στον ποταμό Κουμπένκα, δύο χιλιόμετρα απόσταση από τη λίμνη.
