Ο όσιος Γρηγόριος, έζησε στίς αρχές του 14ου αιώνα, και ήταν από την Κωνσταντινούπολη. Ευσεβέστατος, διακρίθηκε συγχρόνως και για τη θεολογική και φιλοσοφική παιδεία του. Έκανε διδάσκαλος του Γρηγορίου του Παλαμά, αλλά και σε πολλούς άλλους μετέδωσε τα νάματα της νηπτικής φιλοσοφίας. Πήγε οτο Άγιο Όρος και διάλεξε σκήτη κοντά στη Μονή της Λαύρας. Η σκήτη αυτή, δεν άργησε να αναδειχθεί κοινό εντευκτήριο των ευσεβέστερων ψυχών. Ο Γρηγόριος πρόθυμα έλυνε απορίες, μετέδιδε γνώσεις, φώτιζε διάνοιες και στήριζε τους κλονιζόμενους, δίνοντας σ' αυτούς πολύτιμες οδηγίες, για να μένουν σταθεροί στην πίστη και ν' αγιάζουν τις καρδιές τους. Ο θάνατος τον βρήκε ν' ασχολείται μ' αυτά τα θεάρεστα έργα το 1310 μ.Χ.
