Οι Άγιοι αυτοί έζησαν στα χρόνια του βασιλιά Διοκλητιανού και Μαξίμου ηγεμόνα της Φοινίκης (295 μ.Χ.). Όταν λοιπόν συνελήφθη ο Ιερέας Ανανίας, και επειδή ομολόγησε τον Χριστό και γκρέμισε δια της προσευχής τα είδωλα, ο Μάξιμος διέταξε και τον μαστίγωσαν ανελέητα και έκαψαν τις πλευρές του με πυρωμένα σουβλιά. Έπειτα επάνω στα κομμένα μέλη του, έριξαν ξύδι και αλάτι. Μετά από αυτά τον έβαλαν στη φυλακή, όπου δια θαύματος, μέρες ολόκληρες, τρεφόταν από τον Θεό. Το θαύμα αυτό είλκυσε στην πίστη του Χριστού, τον δεσμοφύλακα Πέτρο και άλλους επτά στρατιώτες, τους οποίους, μαζί με τον Ανανία, ο ηγεμόνας έπνιξε στη θάλασσα. Έτσι όλοι μαζί πήραν από τον στεφανοδότη Κύριο, τα στεφάνια της αθλήσεως.
