Ο Άγιος Αιθέριος ανήκει και αυτός στην ατέλειωτη και ένδοξη φάλαγγα των μαρτύρων της χριστιανικής πίστης. Η θεία χάρη τον έκανε από τη γη ακόμα, πολίτη του ουρανού. Η διάνοια και η καρδιά του, ήταν ελεύθερες από κάθε παχυλότητα. Γεμάτες πνευματικότητα. Νεκρός απέναντι στον κόσμο, δηλαδή στην αμαρτία, ζούσε μόνο για τον Ιησού Χριστό. Αλλά στο διωγμό επί Διοκλητιανού, ο Αιθέριος συνελήφθη. Ούτε οι απειλές όμως, ούτε οι υποσχέσεις, ούτε οι ραβδισμοί, ούτε οι μαστιγώσεις ούτε οι ανοιγμένες πληγές με τα αίματα που έτρεχαν, στάθηκαν Ικανές να κάμψουν την πίστη του Αιθέριου. Πιστός μέχρι θανάτου έφυγε από τον κόσμο αυτό, εκεί όπου είναι η αγαλλίαση του Παραδείσου.
