Ο Άγιος Οσιομάρτυρας Δαβίδ καταγόταν από τις Κυδωνίες (Αϊβαλί) της Μικράς Ασίας. Οι κάτοικοι των Κυδωνιών είχαν αναπτύξει μια ιδιαίτερη σχέση με το Άγιον Όρος, καθώς υπήρχαν δύο αγιορείτικα μετόχια στην πόλη τους, ένα της μονής Ιβήρων και ένα της μονής Παντοκράτορος. Έτσι, όταν ο Δαβίδ εγκατέλειψε τη γενέτειρά του, επισκέφθηκε το Άγιον Όρος και διέμενε κοντά σε κάποιον συμπατριώτη του, αδελφό της Σκήτης της Αγίας Άννης, όπου αργότερα εκάρη και ο ίδιος μοναχός.
